Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors
This membership organization within the United Methodist Church is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a loving, creative and supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the local, national and global ministries of the church.
The United Methodist Women recognize that community involvement is also a part of Christian discipleship, and we encourage and support our women who choose to give support and leadership to community issues and concerns. United Methodist Women express their commitment to the above goals in many different ways, including:
  • Attendance at regular meetings of the unit, circles and interest groups, both at the local church and at the district level.
  • Active participation in Bible studies, work projects, programs, and mission events.
  • Regular pledging in support of unit goals, projects and programs.
The official emblem for United Methodist Women as well as for The United Methodist Church combines the cross and a flame.  The cross and flame are ancient symbols of Christ and Pentecost.  The shape of the emblem is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility.  “I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you.”  (2 Timothy 1:6a, NEB).  Our heritage is one of sacrifice, witness, and service.  The emblem serves as a continuing reminder of both opportunity and obligation.
